Pressure cookers are an excellent way to cook soup and split pea is a perfect soup for a pressure cooker. Normally split pea soup takes hours to cook at a low simmer. - Wash the split peas few times, set aside.
- Using pressure cooker: add vegetable oil, stir fry onions and a pinch of salt and sauté until softened, 5-7 minutes..

- Add split peas, water, tomatoes, salt and stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pressure cooker..
- Cover and seal the lid. Cook it for 10 minutes.
- Once the 10 minutes are up, allow the pressure to release naturally.
- Open the lid, stir in the cilantro (i didn’t have cilantro at that moment so i didn’t use it) and season with additional salt and pepper, to taste..
- Serve with basmati rice, or wrap (add chicken,spinach and use the dal for the spread. Super yummy!).
